L . M Montgomery
Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE, also known as L. M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author who began her career in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables and went on to write a number of novels, essays, short stories, and poems. She wrote 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays in addition to her novels. Anne of Green Gables was an instant hit; the main character, orphan Anne Shirley, made Montgomery famous and gave her a worldwide following during her lifetime. The majority of the books were set on Prince Edward Island, and some of the sites inside Canada's smallest province became literary landmarks and popular tourist destinations, such as Green Gables Farm, which formed the inspiration for Prince Edward Island National Park. In 1935, she was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire.
